With house prices at a premium many consumers are now choosing to renovate and improve their existing homes. Redesigning an old kitchen, bathroom or other room allows you to put your creative hat on and create your perfect living environment while adding desirability and saleability to the property. Coastal Homes has recently completed such a bathroom project and incorporated Di Vapor’s Cosmo whirlpool TV bath as a centrepiece. Working with limited space, a director of Coastal Homes tells us how you can transform your old, dated bathroom into a modern, feature packed haven.
Coastal Homes is a building contracting company in Bournemouth and as such we are very much used to making the most out of the products we buy. We chose the Cosmo whirlpool TV bath from Di Vapor to replace the existing bath and due to our industry expertise knew that we could adapt the glass finish to match the bathrooms tile colouring. The front glass panel on the Cosmo was removed and sent to one of our glass works where at first they thought they might be able to remove the backing and re-spray. Unfortunately, this was not possible so we used the old glass as a template and cut a new 6mm glass panel identical with radius and holes drilled. The new glass panel was then sent to be toughened and afterwards we had the panel sent to be sprayed.
Originally, we had the glass panel sprayed a matt silver to match the vanity but when fitted we found it had a green tint where the silver reflected through the glass. We were not happy so we sent the panel back again to be stripped and repainted, this time with a metallic black as seen in the images of the bath. This, combined with the glass inset into the Italian toilet gives the effect we were hoping to achieve.
The other components in the bathroom were an Italian Vanity unit although designed for a worktop with under-mounted sink, which when we saw it looked terrible we convinced the supplier to separate and bought just the vanity. We used five of our suppliers to find us a solid one piece sink to fit the unusual size of the vanity. This was then complimented with a tap to match the Cosmo bath.
The mirror was a special order as it has motion sensors to turn on the lights and is very cool! The steam room was selected due to its satin finish which we liked. We could have had this with a television but as I still laugh, it can’t be easy to watch T.V. in a steam room, so we settled for a radio and telephone and full remote control.
The tiles have a snakeskin pattern and are actually floor tiles used on floor and walls. We cut through the tiles to insert vertical LED’s. The shelve units were all made on site to accommodate the German cistern and associated pipe-works and after tiling all glass mirrors were cut and fitted to provide open display and hidden storage for toilet rolls etc. We finished off the open display with LED’s to reflect light through perfume bottles and bath oils. The floor drain was a special order as we wanted to run the full length of the bath.
The T.V. on the bath was connected to the booster system within property and then fitted with a magic eye which can be seen in bottom right hand corner of the T.V. This gives us full sky menu with remote control.
The finished bathroom design combines cutting edge bathroom products, skilled workmanship and a creative licence to transform an old unassuming bathroom into a desirable escape from which you will not want to leave.
