Franke’s pull-out nozzle kitchen tap, Wave, has a hot flow rate of 1.70 liters per minute and a recommended hot water temperature of 65°C or 149℉. To prevent damaging the tap, water pressure must be limited to 75 PSI. The left side of the tap handle holds the cartridge for hot water regulation and delivery.

The cold equivalent of the replacement part is the 3794R-C.

The hot side cartridge has a spline diameter measuring 7.8mm and a teeth count of 28. It opens with a clockwise ¼ turn and closes anticlockwise.

Replacement Procedure: How to Fit the Franke Wave Spare Cartridge

Cartridges will deteriorate due to the presence of hard water, excessive water pressure, or the normal wear and tear. As a safety precaution, turn off both water supply lines before beginning the replacement.

- Accessing the cartridge implies removing the tap’s left side handle by loosening the grub screw located underneath. Next, undo the screw of the insert sitting on top of the cartridge. Then, release the cartridge using a spanner.

- Flush the valve with water to remove dirt.

- Layer silicone grease on the O-ring of the new Franke Wave tap spare and install it in the tap unit. Reassemble the valve handle.


Tap Facts: How Hard Water Affects Taps and Cartridges
Since soft water passes through slate or granite, it contains a much lesser amount of minerals and impurities. Hard water flows through limestone or chalk, taking with it minerals, chlorides, bicarbonates, and sulfates. As a consequence, limescale deposits build up inside and around the tap valve. The accumulation of scale, along with dirt, can block the path where water flows which includes supply pipes, tap spout, and cartridge.
