Leaks or poor water flow are among the signs a tap flow cartridge requires a new replacement. Usually, a good quality cartridge can last for years. The main factor that shortens the lifespan of a cartridge is the level of water hardness. Over time, high levels of chalk and minerals can develop around and inside the cartridge. Accumulated debris will clog the cartridge and causing poor water flow.

Eventually, due to imminent wear-and-tear, cracks in the cartridge or O-rings will transpire and will result in a leaky tap.

Steps for Changing Your Ideal Standard S960025NU Ceramic Disc Tap Cartridge Pair

These are the common steps for replacing an S960025NU tap cartridge:
1: Isolate cold and hot water supply lines. If isolation switches cannot be found, turn the main valve off. This can generally be found near the water meter. Once it is switched off, open the tap to see if the water supply is fully isolated.
2: If the handles are embellished with a cold and hot indicator, remove it by popping it out by hand or using a small blunt instrument to prevent scoring the handle’s finish.
3: With the indicator out, you can now access the small screw underneath the indicators. Use a screwdriver to undo the screws and remove the tap handle.

If there are no decorative indicators, the screw is often located at the back or below the handle.

4: There may or may not be a shroud covering the cartridge. If there is a shroud, it can be hand tight and can be taken off by turning it anticlockwise. If the shroud is locked in place with a screw, use a hex key to undo the grub screw. Remove the shroud.
5: Without the shroud, the top of the flow cartridge can be seen. Grip the cartridge with a spanner and rotate anticlockwise to dislodge it. A small amount of leftover water may seep out.
6: Clean the inside of the tap valve unit using a cloth or a brush.

7: Grease the new Ideal Standard / Trevi S960025NU cartridge with silicone grease and set the cartridge in the valve unit. Use a spanner to tighten.
8: Reinstall the shroud, tap handle, and the decorative cold and hot indicators.
9: Turn both water supply pipes on and test if the S960025NU installation is merrily completed.
