A: This is how to open the Markwik 21+ Thermostatic Basin Mixer to change the A861123NU.

1. Isolate the Water Supplies
– Remove the grey button near the base of the tap. There are two: one for hot (left side) and cold (right side).
– Use a 5mm Allen key and screw in a clockwise direction to close water supplies.
– Open the tap and test if isolation is successful.

2. Remove the Tap Handle
– Unscrew, anti-clockwise, the top cover (the plate blue and red indicators sit) of the handle.
– Use a 4mm Allen key to undo the handle retaining screw.
– Lift to remove the lever handle.

– Remember the orientation of the lower temperature stop ring (see where the “maximum blend indicator is pointing). It has to be returned to the same position in reassembly. Taking a photo before lifting the stop ring out might help.
– Remove the temperature stop ring.
– Use a 36mm a/f deep socket to unscrew the A861123NU sequential thermostatic cartridge. While unscrewing the cartridge, hold on to the tap spout to prevent it from rotating.

– Screw it in place and use the deep socket to tighten. Do not overtighten.
– Return the stop ring in the same position as before disassembly.
