Cartridge Removal and Replacement for the Hudson Reed Thermostatic Cartridge for A3091E
This Hudson Reed replacement thermostatic cartridge hot and cold sides can be interchanged. This technology was patented by its manufacturer Valquest.

First, isolate hot and cold water supplies. If you cannot locate the isolation valves, please shut off the main water supply. Cover your drain or plug it with a stopper. This will keep small parts, such as screws, safe in case it drops.

Limescale calcification can make removing the parts hard. Use a lot of force or tools (i.e. screwdrivers, grips, rubber gloves, etc.) to aid in the dismantling process.

1. Twist the white HR decorative button anti-clockwise to remove. Now, the centre fixing screw can be accessed. Remove the said screw with a screwdriver to release the flow control knob.
2. Remove the thermostatic handle prong by turning it anti-clockwise. If it proves to be too tight, you can use a pair of pliers with a rug underneath to loosen the prong.
3. Undo the grub screw using a 4-millimeter Allen key.

4. Remove the thermostatic handle cap by turning it anti-clockwise.
5. Take a photo of the temperature stop’s position. This can be used as a reference when reconstructing the valve handles.

6. Remove the chrome protective shroud and then slide the temperature stop out.
7. Use grips to screw out the brass retaining nut. Remove the nylon washer.
8. Ease out the damaged cartridge by inserting a thin screwdriver in the slits located at the 6:00 and 12:00 of the valve unit.

9. Coat the O-rings of the new Hudson Reed thermostatic cartridge (part number HUD-A3091E-CT) with plumber’s grease. Seat the cartridge in the valve.
10. Reconstruct the removed parts by doing steps 1 to 7 backward. Remember that the position of the temperature stop must be the same as it was before. Use the photo you took in step 5 as reference.

Characteristics of the Hudson Reed Replacement Thermostatic Cartridge
This thermostatic cartridge was developed by Valquest using engineered polymer which is more invulnerable to hard water sediment buildup than brass. The material was approved by the Water Regulatory Advisory Scheme (WRAS). It is equipped with thermal protection. This function prevents shower users from sustaining burn injuries. It can shut off the shower in 1.5 seconds in the event of cold or hot water failure.
