Frequently Asked Questions: Vernet France Thermostatic Cartridge Brass with Spring
Q: How to choose the right thermostatic cartridge spare?
A: The type of thermostatic cartridge will be determined by the shower valve housing used. The correct cartridge must have the same measurements and spline teeth count.

You can send us a message with a picture of the cartridge you need. We will do the search for the matching cartridge for you.

Q: When does a brass spring thermostatic cartridge need to be replaced?
A: A thermostatic cartridge may fail for a number of reasons, such as a disparity between hot and cold water supplies. The cartridge might need to be replaced when water temperature can no longer be controlled, water flow is getting weaker, or your shower tap is leaking.

How to Replace a Thermostatic Cartridge?
The Brass Spring Thermostatic Cartridge with Vernet Wax Element is a spare part for both shower and tap. Changing the brass thermostatic cartridge with spring will depend on the valve you have. These are the steps for replacing an exposed bar shower cartridge.

    1. Turn off hot and cold water supplies. Then turn the shower on to be certain the water supply is successfully turned off.
To ensure water supply is turned off:
    - Use a hex key to remove the shower valve housing handle. Then remove the handle prong.

    - Next, pull the stop ring to remove. Do not remove the cartridge. Put back the thermostatic handle on the valve and turn it counterclockwise until it stops. After it comes to a stop, rotate the handle clockwise.

    2. On the bottom of the valve, use the hex key to remove the cartridge by pulling it out of the valve housing.

    3. Use a silicone lubricant to grease the 2 O-rings of the brass spring thermostatic cartridge. Slip the cartridge in the housing. Make sure the hole for the grub screw on the cartridge is aligned with the hole from the bottom of the valve housing.
    4. Secure with grub screw and tighten.

    5. Calibrate the brass thermostatic cartridge if desired.
    6. Put back the stop ring with the stop point directly on top. Make sure the cartridge spline is not moved.
    7. Put the handle back. The stop position should be at the top. Secure it and return the handle prong.

Fun Facts: How does a Vernet Wax Element work?
Heat energy is converted into mechanical energy through the use of thermostatic wax elements.

A thermostatic wax element balances the inflow of hot and cold water supply to produce the desired water temperature. The Vernet wax element utilizes the thermal expansion of the wax within as it melts.

A typical household heating system heats water approximately 60℃ (140℉) to 65℃ (149℉). Cold water runs from 10℃ (50℉) to 15℃ (59℉). These temperature levels keep water from bacterial contamination. The Vernet wax element mixes hot and cold water by 50/50 resulting to a lukewarm 38℃. To have a good shower, apt water temperature is vital.
