Tap Repair: How to Install the Franke Bern Tap Cartridge

The Frank Bern swivel spout kitchen tap is capable of a hot flow rate output of 3.60 liters per minute. Just like other taps by Franke, the Bern can handle water pressure up until 75 PSI. If the pressure is too strong for the Bern, it will surely cause damage to the tap and its parts. The recommended hot water calibration is at 65°C or 149℉ with a max temperature of 70℃ or 158℉.

Tap maintenance of the Franke Bern comprises of dismantling the tap handle and accessing the cartridge for repair or replacement.

1. Turn hot and cold water supply pipes off. This will prevent injuries in the event of hot water delivery.
2. Plug the drain so that small parts will not fall in it.
3. Use an Allen key to remove the grub screw located under the handle. Loosen the screw to remove the tap handle.
4. Unscrew the insert with a screwdriver.

5. The Franke Bern tap cartridge replacement has a screw-in fitment. Clutch a small spanner on the nut part to extract the cartridge.
6. Check the valve seat for debris and rinse it with water or wipe with a damp cloth.

7. Grease the O-ring of the new cartridge with plumber’s silicone and slide it in the valve seat. Secure it using the spanner.

8. Reattach the insert with the screw.
9. Reattach the handle and secure it by tightening the grub screw.
10. Unplug the drain and open water supplies. Check if the installation is done without any drips.
