SUMMARY

GROHE Premium Plumbers Silicone Grease - 2g - SYNTHESO LM 220 (18007031)

- Part.Nr: 18.007.00U

Used on o'rings and other plumbing applications. Often used with tap and shower cartridges.

Brand: Grohe
Product: SYNTHESO LM 220 – Silicone Lubricant for Plumbing

Application: SYNTHESO LM 220 is plumbers silicone grease especially made for shower and tap applications. This 2-gram packet is enough for a shower or tap cartridge fix. Use your fingers or a small paintbrush to apply a thin coating on the O-ring surface. This must be done before introducing the new cartridge or seals in the valve unit.

If you need a bigger tube, this plumbers silicone grease is available in a 25-gram tube (for installing at least 10 cartridges).

We also offer various seal kits for different cartridges.

Why Do We have to Lubricate O-Rings?
Taps do not necessarily leak thanks to O-rings. An O-ring is wedged in the ridges of a cartridge as a seal to keep water within the barrel. This elastomer band is also called a toric joint. O-rings compress and decompress, and are scraped and pinched inside the tap or shower valve. It can easily wear out as a result.

Plumbers silicone grease adds a layer of protection against friction and damage incurred by the bands as we use the tap. It can help prolong the life of the seals. Additionally, it seats the O-ring properly in the tap or shower valve. These are among the reasons why it is important to grease the cartridge O-ring(s) with silicone lubricant prior to installation.

Fun Facts: Thomas Edison and the Beginnings of O-Rings
Long before the O-ring became what it is today, rings were used in early telescope tubes, pistons, and water-work piping.

Thomas Edison used a round rubber ring for one of his well-known inventions, the incandescent light bulb. The single ring was located on the neck of the bulb to keep mercury in and block air from entering.

A Swedish patent for the O-ring was filed in 1896 and an American one in 1937. Since then, it became an economical way of sealing fluid chambers, such as tap cartridges, and machine designs for land, sea, and even outer space.

Throughout history, O-rings have a lot of use. For plumbing applications, protecting the toric joints with the proper silicone lubricant for plumbing (SYNTHESO LM 220) is indispensable!
