Franke Eiger Cartridge Installation
1. To replace an old cartridge with this Franke Eiger spare part, unscrew – with a hex key – the right side handle of your tap. The grub screw can be found under the handle. Proceed to remove the shroud. Use an appropriate sized spanner to take the screw-in cartridge out.

2. Grease the o-ring of the new cartridge and install it in the valve. Tighten it with a spanner. Then, restore and fasten the shroud and tap handle.

Note: It is important to note that one should never forget to shut off the tap’s water supply lines. Also, clean the kitchen tap valve seat if necessary.

Franke Eiger Cartridge: A Kitchen Tap Problem Solution

The Franke Eiger cartridge is a ceramic disc cartridge with a brass body. Mineral debris from poor water quality (i.e. hard water) can accumulate on brass. This clogs the cartridge developing a bottleneck that leads to less and less water flow.

Brass is a sturdy material with a typically low melting point. It is an alloy derived from a mixture of zinc and copper. It is stronger than copper. Although not inclined to corrode, dezincification will occur dependent on water conditions such as pH level and temperature. Over a span of time, the cartridge body will weaken causing fractures to develop and leakage will follow. Copper is a soft metal. The less zinc content in the brass the weaker it becomes.

Poor water quality means the Franke tap cartridge needs to be replaced once every few years.
