It is usually easy to spot if the shower problem is due to a broken 3-way diverter cartridge. One of the major signs is water drips or flows from the shower head when another water outlet is in use or vice versa. This happens when the seals or other parts of the cartridge wears out.

Doing a do-it-yourself diverter cartridge identification is straightforward and no hassle at all. Take the dimensions of the cartridge you have. Approximate it with the measurements of this replacement shower valve part. Spline: The number of spline notches on this replacement diverter and your cartridge must be the same. The spline is the part that connects to the shower valve handle. If it is not a match, the handle will not attach properly.
