Thermostatic cartridges, also known as temperature cartridges or shower cartridges, adjust shower water temperature with a turn of the knob. Huber 2402PL is composed of a brass barrel with three rubber seals and two steel mesh filters. Year by year as the shower is being used wear and tear slowly kicks in. The strain on the cartridge can be exacerbated by factors such as limescale and an excess of water pressure or temperature.

1. Isolate Water Supplies
Before fitting the Huber 2402PL thermostatic cartridge it is important to isolating or close water supplies to the shower valve. This is a safety precaution that will prevent scalding or thermal shock in case of accidental water flow. Water can be isolated via the tap or shower’s isolation valves. If the valves cannot be found, please turn off the water at the mains valve.

When testing whether isolation is a success, make sure you are not under the shower head or any water outlet.

2. Plug the Drain
Plugging the drain will keep small screws or washers from rolling into it.

3. Remember the Order and Orientation of the Parts Removed
Several parts have to be removed in sequence before you can access the Huber 2402PL thermostatic cartridge. These parts have to be returned in reverse order during valve reassembly.

4. The Huber 2402PL Temperature Stop Ring
The temperature stop ring of the Huber 2402PL has an elevated part on its face which is referred to as the “stop”. This part has to be in the same position when putting it back in the valve. To help you remember the position you can note it down or take a photo of it before removing it.

If the stop ring gets stuck with the Huber thermostatic cartridge 2402PL, spray a loosening agent on the calcified part. If it still refuses to separate, you can always get a replacement stop ring (part number W82225B3). This will get your shower fixed quicker.

5. Keep the Old Cartridge
You can keep the faulty cartridge as it can be helpful in the future when it needs to be replaced again.

6. Is Fitting the Replacement Cartridge Successful?
After fitting the replacement Huber 2402PL and reassembling the valve, turn water supplies on and check the shower for leaks. If there are no issues the cartridge replacement can be considered a success.

7. Cycle Hot and Cold
Repeatedly cycle the shower from fully hot to cold to condition the new 2402PL Huber thermostatic cartridge.
