It is the wax element that is the heart of the thermostatic cartridge and it is this very part that controls the temperature of the water. Therefore, it's likely you will need to replace the piston, element and housing if you are looking to fix the shower.

Question: Does the SASFM that you are selling really come with the CEL-001A-WAX piston and element assembly?
Answer: Yes it does. Everything you see in the photo is for the price you see.

Question: Is it possible that the problem isn't with the thermostatic cartridge even if I have checked the element and the element is working?
Answer: Yes, it is still possible that the cartridge needs replacing even if the wax element is working. There are lots of parts in the cartridge that can fail. If one part goes, it's generally easier and more cost effective in the long term to replace the entire assembly. That's why we well this in the entire assembly as if one part goes wrong, it's generally true that another part within the assembly will fail soon thereafter.

Question: Water doesn't run hot. Does the cartridge come with the front housing as well as the thermostat?
Answer: Yes, the cartridge comes as a complete assembly. All you need to do is pick a handle below should your current handle need replacing.

Question: I've done lots of different checks, all the checks you have told me to do in your thermostatic cartridge guide. I've check that the hot water supply is hot enough and I've check that it is a steady flow. My problem is I don't get any HOT water. I get luke warm, but not hot. I have even tried reducing the flow of cold water to the shower valve but the temperature of the water isn't changing. I am at my whits end with this and am completely flummoxed.
Answer: Shower valves have a function which stops hot water from flowing out of the valve to avoid scolding the user, therefore it's not unusual that your shower didn't output hot water even though you reduced the cold flow. By the sounds of it, the wax element in the thermostatic cartridge has failed. Remove the front housing of the valve (ensure the water is off first), and then replace the cartridge. There is a very high probability that this will solve your problem.

Question: Does this cartridge also control the water flow in the shower (i.e. on / off)?
Answer: Yes, that's correct. This SASF2 cartridge controls the temperature of the water as well as controls the flow. So if you have a problem with water flow or water temperature, this cartridge is the solution to both issues.

Question: By replacing my current SASF2 cartridge, will this fix the water leaking from around my valve?
Answer: As this cartridge assembly controls the water flow, it's likely to be the problem behind the water leaking. Replacing it should fix the problem. If it doesn't you can return it for a full refund so long as it isn't damaged.

Question: I've fitted the SASF2 cartridge but now no water is coming out.
Answer: Perhaps it has been installed wrongly. Try taking it apart, making sure the piston, spring and element are installed the correct way around. If the cartridge is installed correctly the piston should spring in and out.

The SASF2 cartridge is used in a large number of Ultra Finishing Group and Hudson Reed shower mixer valves. Please do check that the cartridge you need is this one before purchasing as the cartridges the manufacturers use in their valves changes over time.
